Eurobella Ufari: "Embracing Our Power"
Danielle McCoy aka Eurobella Ufari is an artist, mother, educator, writer, co-creator of Artist In The Room and one half of WORK/PLAY. McCoy is a self-taught conceptual artist that intertwines printmaking techniques with sewing, quilt-making and hand-dyed textiles into her interdisciplinary art practice. By aiming to promote strength, self-care and togetherness among women of color, her work explores gender and identity by addressing issues rooted in race and inequality in America. Through small run publications, installation pieces, site-specific works and programming, her practice serves to build safe spaces of belonging by incorporating spirituality and intentionality into her work.
“Embracing Our Power”
In this political climate, we have become bombarded with imagery via social media and mainstream media surrounding the brutalization of black bodies. The black community is unable to mourn the loss of lives, and more importantly, heal. Trauma is on a continuous loop welcoming both rage and sadness. In my participatory workshop, we will work together sharing ways and creating space for healing. Supplies will be provided to bind a pre-designed zine with a pamphlet stitch technique. Each designed book will include prompts for meditation, areas for journal entry, inspirational quotes and imagery that participants can reflect on when the stresses of the day weigh heavy.
