We currently live in an amazing age of Black Girl Magic, fearlessness and increasing levels of power in every field, including education. Even so, one issue that arises time and again is the front-end dismissal and back-end appropriation of the thoughts, words and ideas of brilliant, black women. This constant silencing, followed by intellectual theft, creates confusion, anger, and/or feelings of being “less than”. We cannot afford to turn off our voices and hand over our genius. Join this Lightening-Round Table where we will discuss four distinct ways we are silenced in conversations, classrooms and boardrooms; and review strategies to address and halt the dismissive behaviors of others in a tactful, yet thoroughly clear fashion.
